Sinner Defeats Yannick Hanfmann in Opening Match

Wimbledon, England – Top seed Jannik Sinner has advanced to the second round of Wimbledon after defeating Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

In a match that lasted just under three hours, Sinner's superior experience and court coverage ultimately proved too much for Hanfmann. The Italian world number one broke Hanfmann's serve twice in each of the first two sets, before the German rallied to take the third set.

Sinner regained his composure in the fourth set, breaking Hanfmann once again to secure the victory. He will now face fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini in the second round on Wednesday, July 3.

Berrettini, ranked No. 59 in the world, defeated Nicolas Jarry in straight sets in his opening match. The two Italians have met once before in a Grand Slam tournament, with Sinner winning in five sets in the second round of the 2021 US Open.

The Sinner-Berrettini match is expected to be a closely contested affair, with both players having a chance to advance to the next round.
