Halle Berry Opens Up About 3-Year Dating Hiatus After Olivier Martinez Split

'It Was a 'Sabbatical to Understand Me''

Halle Berry put dating on hold for three years following her split from Olivier Martinez in 2016.

The actress, 56, revealed in an interview with People that she used the time to focus on herself and her two children, Nahla, 14, and Maceo, 8.

"I decided to take a minute for myself and really focus and be present for my children," Berry said. "I wasn't dating anybody, I wasn't looking for anybody."

Berry said she needed the time to "understand [herself] better" and to figure out what she wanted in a relationship.

"I wanted to be there for my kids, I wanted to be there for myself, and I wanted to do it right," she said.

Berry and Martinez, 56, began dating in 2010 and married in 2013. They welcomed their son Maceo in 2013 before announcing their separation in 2015. Their divorce was finalized in 2016.

In the years since her split from Martinez, Berry has been linked to musician Alex da Kid and actor Van Hunt. However, she has not publicly confirmed any relationships.

Berry said she is now "open" to dating again, but she is in no rush to find someone new.

"I'm not looking for anybody, but if it happens, it happens," she said. "I'm just living my life and enjoying every day."
