Former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell has died aged 54, his family have announced. Campbell was admitted to hospital last week and his condition deteriorated rapidly.

The ex-Gunners and Toffees striker was a popular figure in the game and his death has been met with sadness from across the football world.

Campbell began his career at Arsenal, where he won the First Division title in 1991. He also had spells at Everton, Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Cardiff.

He scored 106 goals in 407 appearances for Arsenal and 13 goals in 55 appearances for Everton.

Campbell also won eight caps for England and was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup.
